VIP Information
OVERVIEW:The West Valley Girls Softball V.I.P Division provides a quality softball experience for children whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate in mainstream teams. V.I.P teams may include those who are:
- Autistic
- Down Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Blind or Visually Impaired
- Hearing Impaired
- Physical Impairments or Conditions that Impair Mobility
- Mentally or Emotionally Challenged
These children are Very Important Players (V.I.P) in West Valley Girls Softball. We believe that all children should have the opportunity to develop new skills and enhance their own personal sense of accomplishment. The V.I.P program offers the chance for everyone regardless of abilities or disabilities to play the game of softball. Our games are structured to create a positive environment. There are "No Outs" and we "Do Not" keep score. Everyone is a winner! No practices are held. As most VIP families already have therapies and other obligations during the week.
PROGRAM GOALS: Children with special needs are estimated to make up approximately 10% of the school-age population. The V.I.P Program has been structured to integrate our special needs children into the rest of West Valley Girls Softball league by using "buddies" from non V.I.P teams to help these players on the field.
Our goals for every participating player are:
- Enjoy the Benefits of Organized Sports
- Understand the Fundamentals of the Game
- Learn Teamwork and Fair Play
- Increase Positive Self-esteem and Accomplishment
- Become More Physically Active
- Develop Socialization Skills
EVERYONE PLAYS: V.I.P helps more than just the players. Buddies and other volunteers increase their appreciation and understanding of individuals with special needs. They find their lives greatly enriched by their involvement with their new V.I.P friends.
For parents who thought that they would never see their children playing in organized sports, the V.I.P gives them joy and hope. They are able to enjoy watching their children having fun like other kids, perhaps for the first time.
Teams are co-ed. V.I.P teams are balanced with players rated by size and physical ability. If you are interested in WVGS V.I.P division please contact Marcy and Paul Fuentes at 818-489-0422; 818-399-7339 or email: paulfuentes@sbcglobal.net
