Player Scholarships
West Valley Girls Softball (WVGS) is a non-profit organization operated by volunteers for the benefit of young female athletes in the West San Fernando Valley and surrounding communities. The WVGS Board recognizes that families with players participating or wishing to participate in the league may experience hardship from time to time. A scholarship program has been developed so that in these situations, WVGS may provide financial assistance to players who would not otherwise be able to participate in a softball season.
WVGS’ resources available for scholarships and/or financial aid are limited and change from season to season. Therefore, the Board cannot guarantee any level of assistance by completing this application. All scholarship applications will be kept strictly confidential and limited to review only by the WVGS Executive Board. Consideration will be given based on the application circumstance (financial hardship explanation), the total number/volume of scholarship applications received for that season, and the availability of funds that the WVGS budget allows. WVGS will never discriminate based on gender, race, familial status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, physical ability, or cultural/religious backgrounds.
The WVGS Executive Board will review all scholarship requests and may choose to award a full or partial scholarship depending on the aforementioned circumstances. WVGS may also choose to offer an alternative solution, such as a deferred payment plan, or opportunity for additional volunteer service hours during the season to offset the cost of registration fees.
In order for an application to be considered, it must be completed by a parent, guardian, or head of household, with all requested information provided. Incomplete applications will not be considered. It is also important to note that scholarships are only available to cover the cost of registration for recreational “rec” teams, and are not available to cover registration fees for Select teams/seasons, All Star teams/seasons, or any other costs such as fundraisers, Snack Shack opt-outs, etc. WVGS expects that any player granted financial accommodations under this scholarship program, will attend a minimum of 80% of their team’s scheduled games and practices. Inability to attend at this level may (at the executive board’s discretion) disqualify the player from financial accommodations in the future.
